How to choose the right press brake die

Press brake die is a tool used by the bending machine to process sheet metal. It mainly processes the shape of the workpiece by changing the physical state of sheet metal. Under the pressure of the bending machine, the sheet metal becomes a specific shape and size. Bending machine molds are generally divided into upper molds and lower molds, which are selected and replaced according to the specific conditions of the processed sheet material. In order to help you choose the right bending machine mold, we have compiled the following knowledge points.

The press brake tool has a great influence on the accuracy of the workpiece. It is generally believed that the press brake die is a minor accessory on the bending machine, but the fact is the opposite. Although the bending machine has developed into a multi-axis, high-precision machine, it also has its own stability function, but in the bending process, the mold is all that contacts the workpiece.

At present, the boundary between the new standard mold, European mold and American mold has been blurred. Many characteristics required for high-performance bending machines have been applied to many different types of molds. No matter which mould and clamping method you choose, you must first ensure that it at least meets the following minimum requirements:

  • High precision: The precision of the mold greatly affects the precision of the workpiece during the bending process, which is very important. The wear of the mold must be checked before use. The inspection method is to measure the length from the front end of the upper mold to the shoulder and the length between the shoulder of the lower mold. For conventional molds, the deviation per meter should be about ±0.0083mm, and the total length deviation should not be greater than ±0.127mm. As for the precision grinding mold, the precision per meter should be ±0.0033mm, and the total precision should not be greater than ±0.0508 mm. It is generally recommended to use fine grinding molds for electro-hydraulic bending machines or torsion shaft bending machines, and conventional molds for manual bending machines.
  • Die segmentation: The die segmentation pre-cuts the larger die into small segments of different lengths according to the frequently used conditions. It is more convenient to use, and the small part of the mold is safer and easier to handle.
  • Automatic fixed installation: the upper mold is installed when the slider rises to the top dead center, and the mold clamping system can keep multiple molds in place until the clamping pressure is applied.
  • Hydraulic clamping system: Hydraulic clamping system is the most effective clamping method. Both new and old machines can use this clamping system, saving time and cost. If the load-bearing surface of the old bending machine is damaged, the hydraulic clamping system will be the best choice to remedy the damage, while also improving the efficiency of clamping and installation.
