HOGI Automatic longitudinal seam welding machine is a specialized piece of equipment designed for automatic welding along straight lines on metal workpieces. It is primarily used to perform high-quality, high-efficiency seal welds on the butt joints of rolled sheet metal (such as cylinder, round pipe, and Oval,cone) or flat sheets.
Unlike circumferential seam welding, which requires the workpiece to rotate, longitudinal seam welding machine achieves straight-line welding by moving the welding gun along the fixed seam of the workpiece.
1. Core Operating Principle
The longitudinal seam welding machine secures the workpiece to a mandrel via a clamping system, ensuring tight alignment at the seam. The welding gun is mounted on a rail carriage and driven by a precision drive system to move at a constant speed along a predetermined straight-line path.
• Clamping Device: Typically, pneumatically or hydraulically controlled hold-down fingers are used to uniformly press both sides of the workpiece tightly against the mandrel’s backing plate, preventing thermal deformation during welding.
• Mandrel and Backing Plate: The mandrel typically contains a copper backing plate, which not only provides support but also rapidly conducts welding heat, reducing the heat-affected zone and preventing oxidation on the reverse side (often used in conjunction with a shielding gas purging system).
• Automated Travel: A slide carriage driven by a rack-and-pinion or precision lead screw ensures smooth movement of the welding gun and extremely high linearity.

• High Welding Quality: Due to the uniform pressure applied by the fixture, welding distortion is minimal, resulting in flat, aesthetically pleasing, and consistent welds.
• High Degree of Automation: Utilizing a PLC or HMI control system, parameters such as welding speed, current, voltage, and gas flow can be set to achieve high precision in repeatable operations.
• Wide applicability: Supports multiple welding processes, such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), MIG/MAG (Metal Inert Gas), plasma, or submerged arc welding (SAW).
• Material compatibility: Capable of processing stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, copper, and other special alloys.
